SPENDING

how much does it cost to travel around the world
Spending is per person, for the whole 13 months**

**Before we get into the numbers, I wanted to be totally up front about the costs. The costs include everything except vaccines ($392.58) and travel insurance ($1,617.58) which were purchased beforehand. We can’t recommend having travel insurance enough, it’s something that you’ll be glad to have when you need it, and World Nomads makes everything so easy. So that’s roughly a $2,000 up front cost that was not factored in to the numbers. Everything else from flights, to beers, to buses, to visas, EVERYTHING, that was spent from day 1 is included. Whether it was Dollars, Euros, Francs, Korunas, Forints, Zloty, Baht, Kip, Riel, Dong, Rupiah, Sol, Bolivianos or Pesos, it’s all been converted and accounted for.

So that’s correct.

We traveled around the world for 13 months for

$20,848.34!

Yes, roughly $52 per day is how much it cost us to travel around the world.

**When we booked our flights using airline miles, we would score long haul flights for next to nothing.

The catch…we had to take routes with long layovers and multiple legs and stopovers.

For us, time was something we had on our side.

It was worth it to save our money in exchange for a brutal travel day.

The Sacrifice:  Ride an extra plane or two. Catch up on some new movies.  Eat McDonald’s & nap in the airport.

The Payoff:  End up in a new part of the world with a flight that cost less than the Big Mac we just ate in the airport.
